‘Were you there? II’ is a series of 10 colour images made as a subsequent work around the consumption practice and an analysis of the current globalised world culture.
Inspired by an invitation to participate at the Ladyfest London 2008 exhibiting a photographic series, this series was created with the motivation to link both subjects ‘consumerism on the contemporary culture’ and ‘feminism’.
Using as background specific billboard advertisement images found on the high streets of central London, the subject of Nayana’s photographs appear in foreground as blurred subjects contrasting with its background. All foreground subjects are pedestrian women, and all backgrounds are female representations embodied as brand adverts, selling more than products a ‘feminine pattern’ for the contemporary way to be.
